Hamlin Trust NZ

The Hamlin Trust NZ (or Hamlin Charitable Fistula Hospitals Trust (New Zealand), to use the full title) was set up on the initiative of the late Morton Fountain.  He had met Catherine Hamlin many years earlier in Sydney, and was deeply moved on reading her book, “The Hospital by the River, A Story of Hope”.  Led and encouraged by Morton, a small group went through the process of forming a trust to provide long-term support to the work which Catherine and her husband Reg had established in Ethiopia.

The Trust was formally registered on December 16th, 2005.  It has since been registered under the Charities Act.  All donations to the Trust are tax-deductible in accordance with current IRD rules.

The Trustees and their helpers do all their work as volunteers.  Administration expenses are kept to a minimum and are met by the Trustees or from donations for administrative costs.  As a result of this policy, 100% of all general donations to the Trust are available for the treatment and care of fistula patients and for the essential work of training midwives to save the next generation of young women from tragic birth injuries.
